Welcome Back-to-School 2023–2024

Michele Moore, Director, SST Region 5

What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year?

I am excited about the statewide focus on literacy being aligned with the Science of Reading. We know early literacy is key to future success, and the state has developed so many resources and opportunities for learning for all educators and families.

What OLAC resource(s) are you using for yourself or your teams to prepare for back-to-school?

Aligned to the statewide focus on literacy, OLAC has a newer module, Leading Literacy. This module provides a nice foundation of leading literacy from the system or district level.

What is your go-to OLAC resource?

One of my favorite OLAC resources is the DLT team assessment (SIPR). At times, teams can lose sight of their essential functions. The team assessments can help reground teams in their work by examining strengths to sustain and opportunities for growth.

Tim Sies, Superintendent, Clermont Northeastern Schools

What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year?

I'm most excited to learn about my new district, its people, operations, etc., and to make a positive impact on all stakeholders.

What OLAC resource(s) are you using for yourself or your teams to prepare for back-to-school?

Because I'm focusing on accountability, coaching, and feedback, I often utilize the OLAC modules, webinars, and videos on these topics.

What is your go-to OLAC resource?

My favorite OLAC resources are the educator crosswalks. I also lean heavily on the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) resources.

Michael Tefs, Superintendent, Revere Local Schools

What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year?

Watching our employees work collaboratively to create a robust, high-energy, and welcoming student experience. Teachers, custodians, administrators, food service, transportation, etc. all focused on our students and their well-being.

What OLAC resource(s) are you using for yourself or your teams to prepare for back-to-school?

Introducing new employees to OLAC and assisting them with securing their login is job number one. Then, we continue to build capacity on our shared accountability structures/protocols, analyze our student achievement data, and follow the 5-step process for updating our school growth plans.

What is your go-to OLAC resource?

Process matters. The OLAC resources that are anchored around the OIP are always relevant, authentic, and reliable. When process functions well, distributive leadership teams are generally efficient and successful.

Carrie Sanchez, Director of Leadership & Learning, North Point Educational Service Center

What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year?

I am most excited about the fresh opportunities and the eager anticipation that comes with a new school year. Whether you are an administrator, teacher, or student the potential is electric. Personally, I am super excited about collaborating with OLAC and connecting with future friends and colleagues!

What OLAC resource(s) are you using for yourself or your teams to prepare for back-to-school?

I'm hoping that leaders will utilize the amazing educator evaluation crosswalks in order to prepare for the upcoming year. Evaluation, when implemented properly, can have an incredibly positive impact and profound outcomes.

What is your go-to OLAC resource?

I really enjoy the OLAC podcasts, as I travel a lot with work, and I love the ability to listen and learn during those hours of travel!

Lynne Stark, Principal, Clearview Local Schools

What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year?

We are excited to utilize our academic coaches in a refined way this year. Two of our classrooms will be Tier 3 co-taught classrooms in grades 3 and 4 to bridge learning gaps. In K-2, we will have academic coaches push in at Tier 1 and pull out for Tiers 2 and 3 and we have a plan to provide targeted interventions. We have seen such growth in the early grades after last year and we are excited to see how much growth students make with foundational skills this year.

What OLAC resource(s) are you using for yourself or your teams to prepare for back-to-school?

I really enjoyed the webinars on Making OTES Meaningful so that I can better support teachers in the classroom.

What is your go-to OLAC resource?

Webinars for DLT/BLTs/TBTs have been my foundation for building a system of support with a clear process. I have watched them a few times. We have developed this over the last 5 years to have a system that works for our school.
