What We’re Excited About This Month
The end of the school year is quickly approaching, but there’s still much to be done—from wrapping up testing and evaluations to starting to plan for next year. At OLAC, we are here to support your professional learning needs with free resources and events to develop essential leadership practices at every level of the school system. So, here are a few things that we’re excited to share with you this month—some reminders of existing resources and some new things to explore.
REMINDER: Educator Evaluation Crosswalks
It’s evaluation season, and we want to remind you of our educator evaluation crosswalks for superintendents, principals, and teachers. These crosswalks are designed to support the evaluation process by including an overview of each standard and indicator for superintendent, principal, and teacher standards, along with guiding questions that educators can use to support the evaluation process and complementary OLAC and other resources to guide constructive reflection and professional growth. REMINDER: Teacher Appreciation Week
Just a reminder that May 8-12, 2023 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Take time to start thinking about how to thank and recognize Ohio’s wonderful teachers. Consider sharing your stories and celebrations on social media using #OhioLovesTeachers and #ThankATeacher.
NEW: 2024 OLAC/PBIS Showcase
The Ohio Leadership Advisory Council and PBIS Showcase is a one-day professional learning event designed to share powerful examples about how district, building, and teacher-based teams are working together to impact all learners AND showcase Ohio’s schools implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) with high fidelity. Through this event, our goal is to help build the capacity of those who lead, teach, and serve students in Ohio’s schools and beyond. This year, the Showcase is moving from December to January 31, 2024. We are excited to offer a completely live virtual event—live keynotes, live learning sessions, live Q&A with presenters, and a live student panel. The live event will allow us to engage in real time, while reaching as many Ohio educators as possible. Watch for more details on our keynote announcements soon!
NEW: Personnel Guide to the Ohio Improvement Process
As districts begin the hiring and onboarding process for new staff in the coming months, we want to share a new resource with you—the Ohio Personnel Guide to the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP). This guide is for newly employed Ohio educators and educators moving to new roles within Ohio’s education system. It provides a quick overview of the OIP and related resources that are available through the OLAC website. Explore the guide.
NEW: Leading Literacy Module
The science of reading is a hot topic. It’s complex and people have questions. Our new Leading Literacy module provides answers to your questions and provides the gateway to learn about the science of reading. It also explores the necessary tools for leading literacy instruction. The module can be used by educators across the system, including district leadership teams, building leadership teams, and teacher-based teams to provide a solid foundation and common understanding.
