Introduction to Board Development and Governance Process

Doug Reeves, Founder of the Leadership and Learning Center, briefly describes the 12 essential board leadership practices as defined by research. These practices include creating a vision; using data; setting goals; monitoring progress and taking corrective action; creating urgency; engaging community; connecting with district leadership; fostering and open, inquiry-focused culture; investing in staff development; developing policy with a focus on student learning; and practicing unified governance.
