Creating Accessible Presentations
OLAC strives to make this website accessible for all users, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technology to support their learning. When we create inclusive environments, whether in the classroom for students or online for adult learners, we ensure that people have access to the information and tools they need to meaningfully understand, interact with, and contribute to digital learning spaces.
OLAC requires content contributors providing documents and presentations to meet the minimum standard of passing an accessibility check in the source software or application. Prior to posting content, the web development team will complete a basic accessibility check. If there are accessibility errors or warnings in the accessibility check, then you will likely be asked to fix the content before it can being posted.
OLAC has worked with OCALI to provide quick troubleshooting videos to help avoid or fix any accessibility check results. In addition to completing the accessibility check, please do not include embedded videos in a presentation. The following list shows items that may appear in an accessibility check that you are required to address:
- Alt Text
- Color Contrast
- Slide Titles
- Reading Order
- Tables
- Styles
- Picture In-Line with Text
Please note: The accessibility troubleshooting videos are meant to help avoid or resolve errors and warnings that appear when the accessibility check is completed within PowerPoint or Word. Presenters and content contributors are encouraged to complete a full accessibility training in order to ensure all materials are accessible for the largest audience possible.
