Introduction

A Large-Town School District Addresses the Challenge of Boosting Student Achievement Using the Ohio Improvement Process

The school district of a large Ohio town recognized the importance of meeting higher standards of academic achievement to better equip its students to meet the challenges of post-secondary education and the workforce. The district embraced the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) and the tools provided by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), but it took a change in leadership and many years of district-wide effort for improvement work to get firmly underway.

The efforts undertaken by the district administration and its committed team of educators have brought the district closer to meeting its goals; significant gains have been realized. But several goals have not yet been met. Improving students’ academic achievement and closing achievement gaps remain the primary focus for this district.
